As planned, the fight between former heavyweight boxer Mike Tyson (58 years old) and his junior Jake Paul (27 years old) will take place in Texas, USA on November 15.
Before the fight, Mike Tyson drew attention by revealing that he was in critical condition due to a stomach wound, which is why the fight with Jake Paul, originally scheduled for July 20, had to be postponed for almost 4 months.
Mike Tyson (left) will have to undergo a medical examination to obtain a licence to fight Jake Paul in the United States on the evening of 15 November.
“When I woke up, I was in the bathroom vomiting blood. I had lost more than 25 pounds in 11 days and couldn’t eat anything but liquids, I was exhausted and had to get a blood transfusion. The doctor said I had lost almost half my blood volume and I almost died,” the former world heavyweight champion told the New York Times.
The revelation that Mike Tyson was “close to death” caught the attention of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (TDLR), the licensing agency that organized the fight.
TDLR Communications Director Tela Goodwin Mange said that Mike Tyson will have to undergo a thorough medical examination. A doctor appointed by TDLR, in addition to the medical examination, will be in charge of informing the 58-year-old former boxer of the possible risks. The possibility of the fight being cancelled if Mike Tyson’s health is not guaranteed is not ruled out.
For his part, Tyson said he had prepared carefully and shared many videos about his training process before facing Jake Paul.
Mike Tyson’s last fight was against Roy Jones Jr. on November 29, 2020, but it was an exhibition. This time, he fought Jake Paul, 31 years younger, in a professional boxing match.
While Paul is a famous American YouTuber, he entered the boxing scene in 2020, having 11 professional fights, winning 10 and losing 1.
The 27-year-old boxer boasted that he had earned around $40 million in his professional career and was on the verge of defeating a world boxing legend (Mike Tyson).
